Hector lives in Edinburgh and has just turned 17. He's a pupil at Merchiston Castle School, where he's studying for A-levels.
He enjoys many sports, including rugby, athletics and cricket. In athletics his best distance is 400m, which is a lot shorter than the challenge he is about to embark on!
The Marathon des Sables is the stuff of legends. It is The Toughest Footrace on Earth (Discovery Channel).
The Marathon Des Sables is a 250 km run over 6 days in the Sahara desert. "I knew about the race as my Dad has done many of these races before. The race is in April where the temperature will often exceed 50 degrees. It is something I have always wanted to do from a young age and this is the first year I will be allowed to do it being one of the youngest ever to attempt the MDS."
"I am going to be raising money for charity (please note, we are covering all the costs ourselves, so all money donated goes straight to the charity). I have chosen the charity Overcoming Multiple Sclerosis because my mother was diagnosed in 2013 with Multiple Sclerosis. She came across Overcoming MS and it has really helped her with her diet, fitness and her attitude to living with MS."
